DIALOGUE IN THE WOODS

Why are the trees sad?

The leaves are falling.

Falling where?

To the ground.

Why?

Because that’s where they belong.

Does everything belong on the ground?

To some extent.

Can we help the trees?

Nature will.

How?

She’ll give the trees new leaves.

When?

After all the leaves fall.

To the ground?

Yes.

Why don’t the trees fall to the ground?

Some do.

How?

If a storm comes through or something.

Does nature help the tree up?

You could say that.

What came before the trees?

More trees.

How did they get there?

More trees I suppose.

What happened to them?

I don’t know, maybe some are still here.

How?

Trees can live to be very old.

Will grandpa be as old as a tree?

I’m afraid not.

Why not?

That’s how nature works.

Why?

I guess that’s just how life goes.

Can I be a tree?

I’m afraid you can’t.

Can you be a tree?

I can't either.

Who decides who gets to be a tree?

I guess nature does.

Can I meet nature?

Nature isn’t a person.

What is it?

I don’t know, its just nature.

Is it nice?

I think so.

Then why are the trees sad?

I don’t know.
